Unique nanny service eases the burden for working parents
Friday 11th June 2010
Melbourne businesswoman Emma Leicester is launching a nanny service called 3 til 6, created specifically to help working mothers out with the most difficult period of the day – the hours between kinder/school pick up and the time parents get home from work.
The idea for the business came about after recognizing a gap in the child care market during her many years working as a nanny. After speaking with her families, along with many other influential business owners living in Melbourne, she realised they desperately needed someone to provide support for their family from the hours of ‘3 til 6’.
3 til 6 founder Emma Leicester reflects that “No one seemed to be offering a service which would do what parents would if they could - pick their kids up from school, take them to their after school activities, bring them home, play with them or supervise their homework, cook dinner for the family and get the kids’ lunch ready for the next day.”
Emma has successfully built two other businesses since her days as a nanny but the dearth of a quality service to bridge the gap for working parents was still top of mind for her.
“In my business career to date I have interacted and dealt with a lot of people who were working parents. They would all prefer their kids were being cared for in their own home while they were at work. It’s better for the kids and it’s better for the parents,” Emma said. “They were also sick of always panicking about getting to after-school care on time – most of them charge late fees by the minute, along with the horrible feeling of their kids being the last ones left at aftercare waiting to be collected,” she added.
Emma also wanted to build a business around each family’s specific needs, hiring the nanny for that particular family rather than just pairing them with the next available nanny on the list. For example, if your child needs after-school tutoring, say in French, Maths, Music or English, 3 til 6 will source a suitable nanny that can not only provide all standard 3 til 6 services, but also tutor your child in their specific needs in your own home. It’s this commitment to personalised and individual services that makes 3 til 6 like no other nanny service in the country.
To make sure families who have their children cared for in their own home are not financially disadvantaged, 3 til 6 is government accredited. All parents taking advantage of 3 til 6’s unique nanny service are eligible for the Government Child Care Rebate, covering up to 50% of out-of-pocket child care expenses – that can add up to a rebate of over $7, 700 per child per year.
“I wanted to offer a service that let parents come home from work happy in the knowledge their children were in the best possible hands,” said Emma.
