 Miss Universe 2008 - and the winner is Laura Dundovic Thursday 22nd May 2008 The dazzling 21 year old Laura Dundovic took out the title of Miss Universe Australia on Wednesday 14th May 2008. The lavish Crowning Ceremony took place at the new, highly anticipated Melbourne Venue, Trak Showroom. Laura’s parents John, Shirley and her long time boyfriend Brock McDermott flew down from Sydney to support her in the crowd. Along with the Swimwear, Evening Wear and Shapewear parades, it was without a doubt her unforgettable answer to the question “What environmental issue needs to be addressed and how can you make a difference?” her response simply “use less Hairspray!” “It looks like we could have another Jennifer Hawkins on our hands with the talent we have in this year’s Final”, says Deborah Miller, Director of Miss Universe Australia. From Dural in New South Wales, Laura is completing her 3rd year of Psychology at Uni, as well as doing full time modelling to keep her busy. The Miss Universe Australia 2008 won’t have long in Australia until she flies out in 3 weeks, on 16th June, headed for Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to battle it out at the World Final on 14th July to hopefully become the next Jennifer Hawkins! She won’t go alone though, an entourage will assist her with preparations including Connie Simonetti; designing her $15,000 evening gown, Jason Brunsdon; preparing the national costume and Kamahi; assembling the national present which will be presented to the Vietnamese Government. Stylish street wear label Bardot will supply Laura with numerous outfits to wear to the various functions in Vietnam. Laura will be able to keep the paparazzi flash bulbs at bay wearing stylish sunglasses from ROC eyewear while moving around the sophisticated city of Vietnam on her official photo call duties for Miss Universe. Glitz and Glamour won’t be a problem either with the help of the Official Miss Universe beauty products supplied by Naked Kiss and Designer Brands. Naked Kiss brings a little bit Hollywood glamour, with its range of lip plumping lipsticks and glosses. Designer Brands will make up Laura from natural to ultra-glam with its extensive range of quality yet affordable cosmetics. With twenty nine finalists competing for the Australian crown, selecting only one winner from these Australian beauties did provide a challenge for the judges though! A new section to this year’s Australian pageant was the Bella Bodies Shapewear show that has never been incorporated into the pageant before. The Miss Universe Australia finalists paraded down the catwalk in the new red Body Reducer Shape Definer that not only showed off each woman’s incredible body, but they absolutely sparkled, as each Bella Bodies outfit was embellished with over 650 glistening Swarovski crystals. The Girls were pampered and perfected for the big day at The Sanctuary Toorak.
